Brown County Art Gallery 2019 Collectors Showcase

The 2019  Brown County Art Gallery 's Collectors showcase combined a one-person play titled "A Sitting with Marie: sketches, Memories, and a Pot of Tea" and a great selection of paintings by Marie Goth,   V. J. Cariani , Carl Graf and Genevieve Goth Graf . The audience assumes the role of a person sitting for a portrait at Marie's studio. Marie, played by Jill Tasker, talks directly to the audience as she discusses the people in her life that have all passed. She talks about her sister Genevieve, her sister's husband Carl Graf, and the one person in her life she cared so very much about, V. J. Cariani. She tells the story of how she went to New York and studied at the Art Students League and met V. J, who was also a student at the school.  Once World War I broke out, Marie returned to Indianapolis, and V. J. went off to the War in France. Brown County Art Gallery 2018 Collectors Showcase

"Steele and Shulz" "A Brown County Partnership" Steele and Shulz The 2018 Brown County Art Gallery Collector showcase opened on September 14th, 2018. The focus of the exhibition was the partnership between Theodore Clement Steele and Adolph Shulz and their contribution to the establishment of the Brown County Art Colony. Rachel Berenson Perry writes "Two tall, slender men, often seen outdoors in the early 1900s, wearing wide-brimmed hats and dabbing at paintings on easels, are similar in appearance and occasionally mistaken for one another in historical photographs. Though from different generations and widely disparate personalities, T. C. Steele and Adolph Shulz both gravitated to the hills of Brown County Indiana, in search of new painting grounds." Brown County Art Gallery 2017 Collector Showcase

Brown County Art Gallery 2017 Collector Showcase The Spirit of Stonehead was used as the inspiration for the 2017 Brown County Art Gallery's collector showcase and to raise money for the marker destroyed by vandals on November 6, 2016. This year's show runs from September 15th through October 30th. The focus of the show was on 7 publicly held Brown County Landmarks: 1. Brown County Art Gallery 2. Brown County State Park 3. Brown County Courthouse 4. Bean Blossom Covered Bridge 5. Old Log Jail 6. T. C. Steele State Historic Site 7. Stonehead Utilizing past and present paintings, etchings, and photographs from Frank Hohenberger (1876 - 1973) and current Brown County Photographer Norberto Nunes, the gallery organized a spectacular show this year. Indiana Impressions The Art of T.C. Steele 2016

Indiana Impressions 2016 The State of Indiana is celebrating 200 years as a State with many events and celebrations during 2016. From April 29th to July 9th the Indiana History Center exhibited 43 paintings from Hoosier Group artist Theodore Clement Steele 1847 to 1926. The show was one of the best shows in recent years dedicated to his art and influence on landscape painting in the late 19th and early 20th century. Steele is the most well know Hoosier Group Artist and the most famous of the early painters. The organizers did a fantastic job coordinating, displaying and gathering the works of art. Many of the 43 paintings on display had never been seen by the public, and all were on loan from private collections. In addition to the exhibition, a special edition of "The House of the Singing Winds" was released in April by IHS press. The book includes a new essay on the life of Steele's second wife Selma, written by the well-known author of Indiana art, Rachel Berenson

Brown County Art Gallery 2013 Collector Showcase (Treasure Hunt 2.0)

Brown County Art Gallery Collector Showcase 2013 Treasure Hunt 2.0 was the theme for the 2013 Collector Showcase organized by The Brown County Art Gallery Foundation. Treasure Hunt was a follow-up to last year’s successful showcase focusing on paintings found by collectors with a story.  In addition to the approximately 70 wonderful works of art on loan by the owners for public viewing, there were also two special exhibits. One was an original work of art from the nationally-known bird and wildlife artist William Zimmerman (10-01-1937 to 11-19-2011) on loan from his family. The second special exhibit included works of art from woodblock artist Gustave Baumann who was known as an exceptional woodblock artist and is a favorite of many collectors of Indiana art. Both Bill Zimmerman and Gustave Baumann will have a permanent gallery in the future expansion of the Brown County Art Gallery. Brown County Art Gallery 2010 Collector Showcase (E.K. Williams)

Edward K. Williams Featured Artist E. K. Williams Collector Showcase The Brown County Art Gallery Foundation, located in Nashville Indiana, launched its largest fundraiser of the year with the 2010 Collector’s Showcase. The foundation has done an excellent job in the past, providing art patrons with beautiful examples of artwork from past Indiana artists. This year’s event was no exception, featuring oils and watercolors from artist Edward K. Williams. For those interested in being the first to view the artwork, the gallery doors opened at 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 9th, with a reservation only VIP reception for 45.00 per person. Admission included complimentary beverages throughout the evening. Patrons not interested in the VIP admission could also enter the event at 6:00 pm for a reservation only general admission fee of  35.00 with beverages available for purchase. Brown County Art Gallery - Paintings for Payment Show and Sale

The Brown County Art Gallery kicked off its Paintings for Payments fundraiser with a preview party and sale on Friday, April 16, 2010, benefitting the Brown County Art Gallery Foundation. The show featured the collection of Dr. Merrill Davis. He accepted paintings from the artists as payment for medical services. Dr. Davis was born in 1890 in Miami County, Indiana, and served in WW I as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He attended Harvard Medical School specializing in orthopedics and was the founder of the Davis Clinic in Marion, Indiana. His wife Josephine Davis was involved in many community endeavors, organizing the Marion Municipal Art Association and was later named to the Tri Kappa State Arts Commission. She also helped set up exhibits of Indiana art at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933. Art Sanctuary Reception

During its first Friday of each month's studio tour, the Art Sanctuary in Martinsville, Indiana, held a reception for the  Art Alliance of Brown County .  Many works from Alliance member artists were displayed in the former church main sanctuary. Anabel Hopkins, who maintains a studio in Brown County, had several of her oils on display and for sale.   Working in acrylic, Monique Cagel displayed her landscapes consisting of typical Brown County scenes. She works from her  Sleepy Cat Studio  in Brown County and is an associate member of the Brown County Art Gallery Artist Association, Hoosier Salon, and Indiana Heritage Arts. Daren Pitts Redman displayed several of her art quilts and was the only textile artist represented at the show. Daren lives in Brown County and hand dyes the fabrics used in her work. Water Color artists were represented by the works of Tom Tuley. Also, Judy and Tom Prichard brought pottery from their  Oak Grove Studio  in Brown County. Many of the resident
