2019 95th Annual Hoosier Salon Exhibition

The Indiana State Museum hosted the 95th Annual Hoosier Salon Exhibition from August 2nd to October 2019. Steve Hicks and Derek Penix were selected as the 2019 jurors and had the difficult task of choosing the artists and their works for the exhibition. This year's selection represented 135 artists and 155 works of art, consisting of portraits, still life, abstract, and three-dimensional works utilizing different mediums. In addition to selecting the works of art included in the show, they also judged each piece and picked the best pieces of art for cash prizes. 2018 94th Annual Hoosier Salon Exhibition

The 2018 Hoosier Salon opened on August 3rd at the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mario Andres Robinson and Mark Boedges were selected to judge this year's 658 entries from 257 artists to determine the final selection of 150 works of art. According to the Hoosier salon website , "The Hoosier Salon legacy began in 1925 when the Daughters of Indiana opened the doors to the first exhibition of Indiana contemporary artists at Marshall Fields and Company Galleries in Chicago. The high quality of art was applauded by critics and the public alike, the first exhibition included works by such notables as T.C. Steele, J. Otis Adams, and Will Vawter, and was an unqualified success. In 1940 the annual exhibit moved from Chicago to downtown Indianapolis finally settling at the Indiana State Museum after various venues." 2017 93rd Annual Hoosier Salon Exhibition

2017 93rd Annual Hoosier Salon Exhibition The Hoosier Salon moved back to the Indiana State Museum for this year's exhibition. Judges Sherrie McGraw and Jim Wodark selected a wide range of medium and subject matter that reflects the historical significance of the Salon and its past. As always the work submitted by the artists is exceptionally well done, and Hoosier Salon makes an excellent venue to showcase their talent. Art lovers and those just wanting to experience art on a casual basis should put the annual Hoosier Salon on their list of the exhibitions to attend each year. C. W. Mundy took this years Best of Show award of $5,000 for his oil painting titled "Emily in the Black Hat with Veil." The  Jurors’ Prize of Distinction worth $2,500 in prize money went to A. Cassia Margolis for a Gouache painting titled "Portrait of Margey’s Son." Rena Brouwer received $1,500 for the Jurors Award of Merit for a watercolor titled "Fragile Grace." $1,000

2016 Annual Hoosier Salon 92nd Exhibition

C. W. Mundy Takes Best of Show at 2016 Hoosier Salon Exhibition The first annual Hoosier Salon exhibition began in 1925 by the Daughter's of Indiana, a group of women who were born in Indiana but lived in the Chicago area. The annual Hoosier Salon exhibition grew into one of the most prestigious juried art shows in Indiana. Opening with a preview event on July 27th, 2016 the Hoosier Salon's 92nd Exhibition hosted by the Indiana History Center did not disappoint in terms of the quality of art on display. Located along the canal in downtown Indianapolis, the history center is a great location for the event.  If you want to make a day of your visit to Indianapolis, there are multiple sites to see within walking distance, including the Indiana State Museum, Eiteljorg Museum of American Indian and Western Art and the NCAA Hall of Champions. 2015 Annual Hoosier Salon 91st Exhibition

Alan Larkin Wins Best of Show at Hoosier Salon The 91st annual Hoosier Salon Exhibition at the Indiana History Center in Indianapolis opened on July 30th, 2015 with a wide variety of subject matter and media. As always, the Hoosier Salon show is well organized and anyone interested in quality art should try to attend the show each year. This year's judges were Qiang Huang and Randall Sexton, who had the difficult task of determining which artist would be juried into this year's show.   Alan Larkin won Best of Show for his  46" x 44" oil painting titled "Alarms and Diversions" receiving $3500 in prize money.  Jerry Smith won Best Landscape for his 38" x 38" oil painting titled "Autumn Canopy" taking home $1000 in prize money. 2014 Annual Hoosier Salon 90th Exhibition

Mary Gretsinger Wins Back to Back Best of Show 2014 Hoosier Salon The 90th annual Hoosier Salon Exhibition at the Indiana History Center in Indianapolis opened on June 26th, exhibiting 127 works of art by 106 Indiana artists. Judges for this year's show are Frank Lalumia from Trinidad, Colorado, and Kathleen Newman from Chicago, Illinois. For the second year in a row, Mary Gretsinger won Best of Show for her 30" x 40" oil painting titled "Behind the Circle" receiving the top cash prize of $5,000. Fred Doloresco received $1,500, Best Traditional Oil for his 40" x 46" piece titled "Winter Pokagon." A 36" x 46" tilted painting by artist Roy Boswell titled "Mysterious Place"  received the $1,000 award for Best Impressionistic. David Tutwiler wins Best of Show at the 2010 Hoosier Salon Exhibition. Hoosier Salon 2010 The 86th annual exhibition of the Hoosier Salon began with a preview event held on Tuesday, August 12, 2010. For the first time in the event history, artists and buying patrons were in attendance to hear Merit awards announcements, discuss art with their favorite artists and purchase works of art. The longest-running exhibition in Indiana, the Hoosier Salon, has not missed any years hosting the event through the great Depression and three wars. The show is rich in heritage, and for those artists who win an award, hold the honor in high esteem.
