Hoosier Salon Entry by Harry Davis Kicks off Art Auction.

The November 19th Indiana art auction started out with a painting by artist Harry A. Davis. Bidding started off brisk but soon died down with a final bid of $2,300, $1,800 off the low estimate of $4,000.  The painting was a Hoosier Salon entry in 2001 and measured 30" x 40" depicting a river view of a city.  At the Jackson art action on November 23, 2014, a Harry Davis painting was the top seller of the auction at $7,000. Another Harry Davis Painting depicting the Methodist Church at 56th and Meridian in Indianapolis Indiana sold for $16,000 in 2011. The painting was a large exhibition size at 30" x 40" and was painted by Harry in 1968.

Paintings by the John Elwood Bundy (1853 to 1933) 

Two paintings by John Elwood Bundy who is considered to be the dean of the Richmond group and one of the founders of the Richmond Art Association was offered to bidders. Famous for his depiction of Beach trees and Indiana forest scenes the two paintings did not disappoint followers of his work. Both paintings followed that theme with the top painting selling for $2,500, $500 below the low estimate of $3,000. The buyer of this oil painting took home a beautiful woodland scene with Beach trees and dirt road that measured 28" x 40" and was signed lower right 1912. The second Bundy Oil Painting was a fall woodland scene of Beech trees that was 18" x 22" and was signed lower left 1925. The painting was well bought at a final hammer price of $1700.

Elmira Kempton (1892 to 1971)

Elmira Kempton was an Indiana artist who lived and worked in the town Richmond studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy. Two of her paintings were offered at auction for collectors of her work. First up on the block was a 20" x 24" Oil painting on canvas of a woodland cottage that was signed lower right. The highest bidder left the auction with the final price of $800. The second painting of a fall woodland scene estimated at $750 - $1,500 measured 20" x 16" and was an oil on canvas and unsigned. The final bid of $475 was well below the low estimate.

In total there were approximately 102 painting up for sale at the auction with a wide range of subject matter and quality providing an excellent selection of art for all levels of Indiana art collectors.
