Painting the Pileated Woodpecker in Acrylic (7)

Expanding Your Artistic Horizons Series Painting Session 7, Final Session Date: 06/29/2017 Subject: Pileated Woodpecker Medium: Acrylic on Paper Links to Prior Sessions:  Session 1 -  3 ,  Session 4 ,  Session 5 ,  Session 6 During this session, I finalized the details of the woodpecker and added details to the leaves. I am considering this painting complete. The whole exercise was to try something new and to  Expand My Artistic Horizons . Also, to explore a new medium or technique and try not to obsess over the outcome. Years ago, I did paint some with acrylic on canvas but never on paper.  So I thought it would be fun to try. I originally started out thinking I would use acrylic more watered down like watercolors and try to achieve a similar effect.  But I ended up just using the opaque properties of acrylic. 2015 Indiana Heritage Arts 37th Exhibition and Sale

Forrest Formsma wins $5,000 first prize at 37th IHA Exhibition The 37th Annual, Indiana Heritage Arts Exhibition, opened to the public on June 6th, 2015, at the Brown County Art Gallery in Nashville, Indiana. James Richards of Atlanta, GA, was selected to judge the paintings submitted by this year's artists. Seventy artists and 123 works of art were juried into the show this year, making the artist eligible for prize money and awards. This year's First Prize Gold Award of $5000 was awarded to Forrest Formsma for a 30" x 40" oil painting titled "Spring Carriage Ride." C. W. Mundy took the $3000 Second Prize Silver Award for his 30" x 40" oil painting titled "Point Lobos, California Coast." Diane Lyon won two awards this year for her 24" x 24" oil painting titled "Peonies." 2014 Annual Hoosier Salon 90th Exhibition

Mary Gretsinger Wins Back to Back Best of Show 2014 Hoosier Salon The 90th annual Hoosier Salon Exhibition at the Indiana History Center in Indianapolis opened on June 26th, exhibiting 127 works of art by 106 Indiana artists. Judges for this year's show are Frank Lalumia from Trinidad, Colorado, and Kathleen Newman from Chicago, Illinois. For the second year in a row, Mary Gretsinger won Best of Show for her 30" x 40" oil painting titled "Behind the Circle" receiving the top cash prize of $5,000. Fred Doloresco received $1,500, Best Traditional Oil for his 40" x 46" piece titled "Winter Pokagon." A 36" x 46" tilted painting by artist Roy Boswell titled "Mysterious Place"  received the $1,000 award for Best Impressionistic. 2014 Indiana Heritage Arts 36th Exhibition and Sale

Indiana Heritage Arts First Prize awarded to Fred Doloresco. Indiana Heritage Arts 2014 This year's show had an excellent selection of art covering a variety of media and subject matter. With 30,000 in prize money for this year's show, judge Jason Saunders from Nashville Tennessee was tasked with determining which of the 135 artists were juried into the show. From the 71 juried artists, Jason picked the Following winners for this year's prizes. First Prize Gold Award of $5,000 went to last year's First Prize winner Fred Doloresco for his oil painting titled "Kettle Corn." Todd Reifers was awarded the Second Prize Silver Award taking home $3,000 for his painting Titled "Winter Shadows, Monument Circle." Third Prize Bronze Award of $2,000 went to Dale Popovich with a painting titled "Miners Falls."
