Jackson's Indiana Art Auction Results & Prices March 28, 2010

T. C. Steele Painting Reaches $85,000

The Jackson's Auction & Real Estate Company held an auction on March 28, in Indianapolis, Indiana.  There was a larger than usual crowd, appearing to be at least 100 people or more, and very competitive bidding.  A 22 X 32, O/C, T.C. Steele still life sold, titled "Dogwoods."  According to the auctioneer, Dennis Jackson, it set an auction record, selling for $85,000.00! The excitement was in the air, while bidders competed for the winning bid.

There were two charming V.J. Cariani landscapes with competitive bidders in the crowd and on the phone, who wanted to take these well-executed paintings home.  The Cariani landscapes were a couple of the best Cariani landscapes that have come up for sale at a local Indianapolis auction.  There was a 20X24, O/B, with a Brown County barns, wagons, and chickens that sold for $17,500.00, and a 10X12 O/B piece of a Brown County cabin with women at the well, selling for $13,000.00.  The last Cariani, a 32X36 floral still life of Peonies, sold for $8,000.00.

Another artist of growing interest to the crowd today was LeRoy, "Roy," Trobaugh, who has had his work published in the American Art Review magazine. Roy's hometown is considered to be Delphi, Indiana.  He spent his entire adult life as an employee of the Monon Railroad.  Trobaugh considered painting as a lifelong passion but never considered himself as a professional artist.  Trobaugh painted wherever and whatever he chose to paint, adhering solely to his own ethics about painting from life and using his own ideas.  He had five paintings sell today, ranging from $550.00 to $4,500.00.

Other auction results included:
