John Bundy and others consider Charles to be the best painter in the Richmond Group
Was also a musician playing the coronet with his four older brothers in their own orchestra
Self-taught and worked as an industrial painter at Hoosier Drill, later the name was changed to International Harvester
Loved Plein-air painting, sleeping in a tent for months capturing the landscape around Fountain City
Made a name for himself by having “Wet Night in February” exhibited at the St Louis Worlds Fair in 1904
